Emily Loan commented on the post, Reflection, on the site Teaching & Learning History 3 months, 2 weeks ago

    Hello Kathy,

I am related to the Kavan’s, my nana is Patricia. What caused me to become interested in writing this story is how I have always had a curiosity in my family history from both sides. My family is […]

Emily Loan wrote a new post, Reflection, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 3 weeks ago

What I will be taking away from this course is to teach my students how to historically think.  This is the key component of this course and it is something I will have to work on.  I have trouble putting myself […]

This has been changed from its original version. I would geo-locate it at the Maple Heights address.

This has been revised from its original version. If I were to geo-locate I would put it at the original spot to show the change in neighborhoods.

Emily Loan wrote a new post, Bohemian National Hall, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 3 weeks ago

ThumbnailThomas Masaryk was the first President of Czechoslovakia.  He was one of the most important men in Czech history, and in 1918 he spoke at the Bohemian National Hall.  He was making a tour around the United States […]

Emily Loan wrote a new post, Czech Bakeries, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 3 weeks ago

ThumbnailThe Czech were known for their little piece of heaven in a pastry.  Many of the immigrants from Czechoslovakia were skilled workers, and they were educated.  Many of these skilled immigrants opened a bakery in the […]

Emily Loan wrote a new post, St. Wenceslas, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 3 weeks ago

ThumbnailIn the early mornings of 1963, if you were near the corner of Broadway and Forest Street in Cleveland, you would hear trucks and sledge hammers pounding away at a piece of history.  In 1963, St. Wenceslas, the […]

Emily Loan commented on the post, Acme-Cleveland Corp., on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 4 weeks ago

I feel like with this one you just need to find a story. Was there any stories from workers who were here during this time? Go into more detail of what they actually did because like Joe said today in class you […]

Emily Loan commented on the post, 1936 Republican National Convention, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 4 weeks ago

Like I said in class the only thing I can see here is how you go from discussing the radio technology to the convention. I think there could be a better way of tying these two together without making them seem […]

Emily Loan commented on the post, Marcus Hanna and the Election of 1896, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 4 weeks ago

I suggest to mainly focus on Hanna on this story. Focus on who he was and what he did for Cleveland politics. You can bring up the McKinley and Bryan race but do not make it a focus. I am sure Hanna did a large […]

Emily Loan commented on the post, Tom L. Johnson and the Big Tent Meetings, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 4 weeks ago

I would also add to the story to maybe try to focus on just the Big Tent meetings. What were they in general and maybe not even for Cleveland. Like we said in class bring the Bryan information to this page. I […]

Emily Loan commented on the post, The Depression ending Prohibition, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 4 weeks ago

The only thing I can think of is that your stories seem a bit short. I know he wants 400 words and I do not think you have gotten to there.

I would suggest making separate paragraphs. It makes it more appealing to the reader when they know that the topic is going to change.

Emily Loan commented on the post, Eliot Ness, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 4 weeks ago

There could possibly be something within the Ness story that you could look into to looking for a new story. Something from Cleveland that you can connect him to.

Even though there is a story already, this was good work.

I like how you discussed somewhat of the demise of Hanna it shows a more human side to the story they holding someone up on a pedestal.

Emily Loan commented on the post, War Memorial Fountain – Fountain of Eternal Life, on the site Teaching & Learning History 10 months, 4 weeks ago

Good story, maybe try to make it sound more like a story then shooting out just facts. Has any event or anything been held at this fountain?

You could maybe give more examples of what what going on in the home front besides the blood. You say a broad statement, and maybe you can elaborate it more to give a feel for WWII.
