The goal of postcolonialism writing is to change the way people think and behave toward all the different people people of the world. They try and accomplish this by giving the “oppressed” a voice. I thought […]

I thought one of Jenkins goals in this book, and probably his strongest argument, was to show that there is no single history, there are many histories. When reading it is important to remember this. A book on […]

Like the others said your images up nicely with what the speaker discusses. I also liked that they were still able to follow a generally chronological order. It adds a little bit of insight that the speaker does not directly talk about, I think its great. Everything is very smooth and very professional. Great job.

You have a lot of good images. I like the order and timing of them. You hit the mark when he talks about the seats in side the theater and then the Hanna right after that. You added more diverse pictures than I remember from the poster, which is good. I did feel that you [...]

Good movie. You have lots of interesting pictures that keep the audience interested. I especially liked all the images of the top when he talks about having to use binoculars, because I never noticed how intricate the top of the building. I would try and make sure the speaker finishes before the credits start though.

This is a period of transition for museums. They are no longer seen as only vast collections or ‘attics’ they are now, more so than ever, a place for education and knowledge. The Tenement House added a discussion segment to their tours, which adds a new dynamic that is not found in many museums. The [...]

Alan Witzke commented on the blog post November 23: The National Park Service as a Public History Agency 1 year, 6 months ago
When the National Parks were established they were a brand new idea. Never before had a government set aside land like that for the public. Over the years the parks experienced many growing pains as they tried to find their place. There was a struggle to determine if they should be more tourist attractions or [...]

Alan Witzke commented on the blog post November 9: A Sense of Place: The Rise of Historic Preservation 1 year, 6 months ago
There were a lot of interesting points brought up in the Howard chapters. One was that preservation can be an environmental issue. I had never thought about that before, but it does make sense. That point alone could make preservation a more popular option today as everything is going “green.” He raised a point that [...]

I guess you will have to judge it when you make the movie because I thought you needed more images to fill out the audio clip. When he talks about the stage and seats I really wanted to see pics of the inside of the theater, but it does make sense that it might be [...]

Alan Witzke commented on the blog post Vanderpool Poster (Storyboard) and Audio Clip 1 year, 6 months ago
The pictures and their order are great. With the clip you have it is probably the best way to show Public Square. However, I do think you will need more images to fill the time during the clip. As I scrolled the poster while the clip played I felt like there was extra time that [...]

Alan Witzke commented on the blog post Short Vincent: The one block street , that made millions of memories 1 year, 6 months ago
You definitely have some great pictures. I like the progression from wide shots to tight showing more details and ending with the cartoons. I would make sure that when he talks about the Seven Thirty Club and crowded streets specifically, you show images that pertain to those. It seems like you did that though. Hopefully [...]

“The Power of Place” is a look at urban landscapes in our society. They are a battle ground for academics and historians. Different groups believe that different aspects of the landscape are important and worth saving. Every group of people and even individuals themselves see their urban landscape differently and have attached emotion and memories [...]

Link to poster here. Audio Clip: TripsDowntownShopping_903002_witzke The audio clip is 1 minute. Â I estimated each picture would run for 4 seconds, so I have 15 pictures in my poster. Â The basic structure follows Burt’s travel downtown, the stores themselves (from outside in), and then transitions to Christmas time. Â I have more good Christmas…[Read more]

I felt that an overall theme in all these readings could have been “When emotions get involved in History.” It can be a difficult thing to present a topic to the public that the public feels uncomfortable with. Usually, we think that with the passage of time it is easier to tell even the harder [...]

I was shocked to learn from the 2nd audio clip that more people visit museums in America in a year than attend sporting events. I do not think I ever would have guessed that, but it is great news. The one part that really rang true for me was when the child asked his father [...]

“Perserving Digital History” raised a lot of interesting questions that I had not fully thought about before. Both the pluses and minuses of digital archiving were presented. I had generally thought that digitizing everything was a good thing and the way to go. I believed anyone who did not want to digitize everything were just [...]

1) if possible see if it still works without the interviewer. clean up the end 2) take out the “so” at the end and you have a great clip 3) a little long, could probably cut out the parts like listing off the architectural firms to get it shorter. may not be easy to find [...]

1) love the story, great description. 2) the story is awesome, hopefully you can find pics that help support it 3) probably your strongest descriptions about the whole atmosphere of the area 4) I like the clip and its description, I just do not know what you can do with it besides show crowd shots. 1) the beginning should be smoother 2) definately fix the ending, there were a couple pauses that maybe you could look at shortening but only if it would sound right, I love his emotion of pride he conveys 3) i would avoid using the interviewer at the beginning if possible, though it might make the [...]
